Brazilian-born, Canadian-made multi-instrumentalist songwriter Luciano Lu connects the world through music by highlighting the importance of heartfelt traditional musical expression to the wellbeing of cultural communities. Among the myriad of cultures and styles under the world music/world-beat banner, Luciano creates bridges across genres, closing the gap between more eclectic and obscure music traditions, and pop culture. For example, interweaving Ben Harper and Leonard Cohen with Gilberto Gil and Luis Gonzaga. Luciano has been involved in music making and music education for 25 years. These years have also seen his exploration of wind, string, keyboard and percussion instruments, as well as his own musical voyage to discover musical styles from around the world and through the ages - from western and world classical to modern experimental, and many in-betweens. These rich experiences accumulated from years of music making have been carefully distilled into this crowning gem, his independently-to-be-released 2021 album “CONFLUENS”. Packed with exotic cultural excitement, this album represents the confluence of different styles of musical sources merging to reveal fresh new textures and sonorous vibrations - a melting pot of an album warmly seasoned by cultural fusion... This album is but one aspect that comes under the banner of “River of Cultures”, an overarching project that includes multiple releases and experiential music-making programs. This project aims not only to introduce people to new original music, but also to the pure traditional roots the music is steeped in. It also hopes to deepen listeners’ appreciation for the genre, and open their mind to a whole new world of music, and music making. As an educator, Luciano believes that music is a door to personal and communal expression and thus, he dreams of pulling down the curtains on music making, so that it becomes more accessible to all who desire it.
